Best laptops for Pro tools

Hi, was wondering if anyone could help me. Im about to buy a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. I have Pro tools 5.3.3 with an mbox. The compatability section on digidesign.com says this laptop is compatable with later versions of pro tools but says that 5.3.3 doesnt work with inspirons. Is this outdated as the inspiron 6000 wasnt around then or will it only run later versions of PTLE?

Get a Sager, my 3880 has a built in Texas Instruments Firewire card and smokes. Dell tech support is by email only Sager gives you lifetime telephone support

Hi, thanks for the reply. The only problem is that im gettin a special deal on the Inspiron 6000 so I wanted to get that. Do you know whether PTLE 5.3.3 with Mbox will run on it?

Well, I don't know what price range you're in. But if you want soemthignt hat for sure works, look at the emachines/gateway AMD64 series.
They are know to work 100% for sure. Tons of folks have been using them, and they're great value for the money.
I won an emachines M6805 myself, and love it and have had zero problems running Nuendo with a Firebox and Pro-Tools M-powered with an M-Audio transit. Both Interfaces hooke dup at the same time.

Not bad for a $1k laptop.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds good. My only problem is thatI can get this Laptop (Inspiron 6000) really cheap at the moment so I had my heart set on getting it. Just wondering if anyone knows whether it will run PTLE 5.3.3 with an Mbox

If the compatibility page says 5.3.3 won't run on an inspiron, then I would go with that. It has been a long time since 5.3.3 came out and those qualifications were made, but:

7.0 will run on an inspiron.
7.0 will work with the mBox.
7.0 is only $75, so with all of the money you're saving on getting the deal on the laptop, you should just get 7.0 and be done with it.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yeah I probably will just get PTLE 7 if 5.3.3 doesn't work on the inspiron 6000. Still interested in anyone whos got 5.3.3 working (or not) on an inspiron or anyone who knows anything whether 5.3.3 with an Mbox will work on the inspiron.

yeah, the sager is great. although man, my sager heavy as hell....

My MBOX 1 works on my dell inspiron e1505. I unfortunately have to disable multi-core support, but it still smokes my Athlon 2800. I have no issues now. Playback is instantaneous. I love this laptop!! Just my take. Best of luck. You can also get some great deals on the e1505 right now.
