Play Sound in Finder - Clean; Play Sound in Workspace - Noisy
Brand new Mac Pro, 8GB RAM, Lion, Omni, PT10.
Title pretty much says it all. If I have a sound file and play it in the finder (or in EasyFind, since Lion won't search my networked drives, coughcough), it's clean, plays fine. If I access that same file via the Workspace, the file sounds noisy - I'd call it digital distortion. This occurs regardless of where the preview volume level is set. It also occurs regardless of whether or not Elastic Audio is activated for the preview. The noise remains when dragging that file into a session from the Workspace AND is present when dragging the file from EasyFind. I've tried creating sessions in different bit and sample rates, and the same issue occurs. Anyone else have this issue and if so, have you resolved it? Thanks. Trash prefs etc, and remove all but the stock plugs and see what happens. That'd be where I start. Should take about 5 minutes.

Re: Play Sound in Finder - Clean; Play Sound in Workspace - Noisy
Thought about it after my post & determined, correctly, the issue is with either the HD PCI card or the Omni.
To test, I plugged in my MBox Mini (grey, rounded) and the sounds are playing without noise. I'm not sure what my next step is, but I've narrowed down the problem... |

I also mixed out some "crappy" sounding tracks to a WAV, then played that WAV through the Mac's sound card, and it sounds fine.
I have re-seated the cable from the PCI card to the Omni, as well as my DB25 analog out cable. No difference. |

MBox and PCI card use different "parts" of PT's software. So it's perfectly reasonable to have them behave differently. Have you trashed prefs, and removed all 3rd party plugs?

Yes. Made no difference at all.

Just another note:
My Analog Outs are set at "Speaker" (+10). Changing it to Line Out (+24) introduces a whole new kind of distortion. So sadly, that's not the problem either. |
