Default Mastering tools

hi guys what do you recommend for tip top mastering do you use finalizer for instance or waves plugs etc please advise me as I am keen to get finalizer unless a software plugin does the job just as well and of course cheaper.

Thanks Guys

TC MASTER X! Period. 3 Band, 5 band, whatever! Get it. You won't be sorry.

As far as i know, you can do anything in PT that you can in a finalizer ( EQ, multipand compression, limiting, expanding, dessing, dither )

I was a long time Finalizer addict, then I found frequencys I was EQ ing and copied the exact ones to a Waves plug in and A/B ed them. The waves was better, the Finalizer - was a little metalic in comparison.

Hi Taiazeez,
The Finalizer is only suited to some styles of music. Styles where over processed dynamics etc., is not a problem.
Loud rock & pop etc.: its good ,but anything from country & beyond, the real musicians will complain about its qualities in an overwhelmingly negative regard !! Period!!!
I've had to ditch it more than once on a gig
even after a lot of tweaking. It was just the wrong box for the gig.
(32 strings & 36 Big band)
Try Waves C4 multi-band for a start.
(most usable)
Regards Michael

Don't mean to confuse you...but I vote for TCMasterX and +L1 TOGETHER!

I use the 3-band TCMasterX and the +L1 and love the results.

I'm pretty fond of the L1+ in the waves bundle. The leveling is good, the sound is hot without being metallic and you've got some dithering options at your disposal. I have heard the TC master works plug-in and that's good also.

.... But then again.... Finalizer has this pretty cool "digital radiance generator" thing. It adds something to your mix that makes it a bit "fatter". And sometimes it´s cool to have 3 band compressor after your preamp when you record...
But plugins rule anyway!
I use separate PC for mastering...it goes thru finalizer for "radiance" and I process it afterwards with plugins...lots of undo´s possible
(Steinberg Mastering Edition makes miracles aswell as any Waves or TC plug)

Forget the Waves C4 and get the tc electronic M5000 w/MD2 option. It is obviously not a plug in but it is the best digital solution I have heard.

I've had a finalizer for a while but I've stopped using it in favour of focusrite plugins. I think as someone else mentioned that the finalizer is better on rock etc than on music with a greater dynamic. I'm sure my use of it is not as good as it could be, but I find that it seems to either ruin things by being over the top, or just does nothing.
