Default The best way to do video sync and time code in LE?

In the ever changing world of protools-

these days what's the best way to do video sync and time code in LE?
last I saw you needed a Motu device called the ???midi timepiece??? or something and you also needed DV toolkit, I assume that you still need DV toolkit, but is the Motu thing still the best devise to get? The one that I saw in use was a little flakey.

I need to put together something that is really reliable and solid. How well is the DV toolkit 2 working on LE 7.1?

thank you very much for any advise.
-Jeff

p.s. video sync and timecode will be supplied from someone else (the video dept.) and sent to me down a BNC

You would be better off getting some solid answers over in the Post Forum (actually I would do a search, this topic come up a lot). Yes, I would get DV Toolkit 2. Although pricey, it really helps speed up the post process and you will find the addition of TL Space a welcome one. Plus, if you need to import an OMF, you'll need Digitranslator.

The easiest way to sync video is to use a Quicktime movie and either view it on a computer monitor, or get an external video box (like the Canopus 100) and output to a TV. Get a QT from the editor with Burnt-In Time code.
Good luck

thanks for the help.
I will take a look over at the post forum also.
But what I'm doing is tracking a tv show, I won't be doing any post. I will be handing over a drive at the end of the shhot day.
So I don't think i will have a need to import a QT movie. What the show id doing is they are recording all audio onto Beta (i think Beta) and they want to send all tracks to me. If all goes well with me they will save a lot of time by not having to digitize. so I need all of my audio files to be in sync with their TC and VS so that they can drop it right into the Avid and everything talks.
thanks again.

Oh... hold up. Misunderstood your post completely. If you are using Pro Tools for recording Production Audio on set, then that is completely different than what I explained. Do a search like I said. I think you will find that although possible to do Prod. Sound straight to Pro Tools, there are far more efficient and effective ways to do it. Not a topic I'm well versed in.

Good Luck

MOTU Digital Time Piece

You don't have to have the DV Toolkit unless you require the SMPTE timeline.

thanks rail. So i just confirmed with my video guy. What I need to accept is SMPTE timecode and video sync. They will be sent to me down 2 different BNC's

I am looking into the digital time piece. Is it new? it isn't the easiest thing to find. Did it take the place of the other MOTU that I mentioned?
thanks a lot.

OMF requires DigiTranslator -- which is included in the DV Toolkit.

The MOTU DTP is old... I used to use mine with OS 9. I don't recommend it for anything except this one purpose. You can normally find one on Ebay.

Do you know how reliable this set up would be with 7.1 DV toolkit 2 and 10.4.6?

I am also running 6.9 on 10.3.9 and it is rock solid. Do you think maybe I should go with this system and the original version of DV toolkit?

thanks again

It should work fine with either and an 002.
