Re: Direct Bass buzz/hiss
What happens when you also turn up the neck pickup along with the bridge pickup?
That buzz/hiss is some of that great ventage Fender sounds... Seing as how your not running double-humbuckers, your going to get that buzz until the magnetic field of the neck pickup balances out the signal. I need to check on the type, but I put some noiseless pickups to eliminate this problem, which I got rid of the buzz/hiss but the tone sucked. So now I'm back to the standard pickups and run both neck and bridge pickups at full throttle... Oh did you say "Deluxe"? That's active electronics right? When was the last time you changed the battery? Cheers

Re: Direct Bass buzz/hiss
Pako,
Thanks for trying to help. "Deluxe" in this situation is having both the jazz bridge and p-bass pickups. Full throttle on both signals takes away the buzz, however, like you said, there is a great sound from just the bridge p/u, except the hiss. I was hoping there was perhaps an electrical trick to getting rid of the buzz but keeping the sound quality. I have a vague recollection of a studio man that modified a Fender MusicMaster bass to cease the buzz. Anyone else with any suggestions? PaulP |

Re: Direct Bass buzz/hiss
It's most likely your CRT monitor introducing the buzz. Single coil pickups and monitors just don't mix. When you're set and ready to record try switching your monitor off or moving further away from your monitor to see if that helps.

Marcus,
Good point! I forgot how the monitors could effect it. I will try and see if that helps tonight. Thanks! PaulP |

Direct Bass buzz/hiss
Hey all,
Just bought a Fender Deluxe P-Bass which has both p-bass and jazz bridge pickups. When going direct, I get an annoying hiss if the tone knob is all the way up with the bridge pickup only. My signal route: bass > SansAmp XDI box > Digimax optical > 001. I hear the buzz with and without the DI. Any thoughts on how to get rid of hizz without losing signal from the bridge p/u? Thanks in advance for your insight. PaulP |
