Default Pro Tools refuses to quit. Have to force quit.

Hello all,

I'm experiencing a quite annoying behavior when trying to quit PT (I've seen some post related to this, but none really helped).
It just won't quit and then , in the active applications window, the app' doesn't respond. Only force-quit will do it.
It doesn't happen everytime but quite regularly.

It already happened under 10.3.7 and 10.3.8 hasn't change a thing.
Any idea?
Thanks

Set up : Mac Pro 2,8GHz QUad Core Intel Xeon (2012), 12Gb RAM, MAC OS 10.7.5, PT HD3 V°10.3.8 (192I/O).

Hi,

Its usually an out of date or incompatible plugin! you will need to go through your plugins folder and remove any out of date or demo plugins and make sure every one is up to date.

Also go through the troubleshooting thread listed in the bottom of my post>>>

Hello,

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I'll look into this but have tons of plugs....
Just to make sure: when you say "out of date or incompatible", does that refer to plugs that won't open in PT or could it also concerns plugs that actually work in PT (for example the Pluggos that aren't officialy supported anymore but still work)?
Thanks again

Default Pro Tools refuses to quit. Have to force quit.

Out if date means anything that the plugin vendor has not specifically blessed as working with your Pro Tools (and maybe OS combination). And even if claimed to work they may still have a bug. To save time start by temporarily removing all third party plugins (actually all plugins that are just not standard with PT 10, or even every last plugin except the mixer plugins) from their RTAS/TDM and AAX folders and starting a Pro a Tools and seeing if the problem goes away. If so you can then suspect it is one or more of those removed party plugins causing the problem and spend time hunting down which one.

When you force quit, OS X should create a crash report. In Console.app under "User...." Reports. Copy the entire text of the most recent report from Pro Tools hanging and being killed and paste it into a post here, you may need to paste it across multiple posts to fit.

Were you using Rewire in your session? That behavior happened all the time with me using the Rewire version of the old Steinberg Grand. If you're looking for the first one to try isolating, I'd say start with that.

Also various older versions of Vienna Ensemble Pro used to do that. More recent versions were better.

That could be a very good lead since I'm actually working on sound editing along with Sound Miner and a rewire instance in my session.
I'll look into that, thanks.

(as for the report, I never had the reflex to save it....)
