Default Monitor color setting

6.7 crashes with my monitor set to "millions" of colors. But it is perfectly stable when I set the monitor to "thousands" of colors.
Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? I'd like to set it to "millions" so I don't have to keep changing it back and forth when I use photo software etc. Thanks

1.8 G5, 512 RAM, 80G internal, 10.3.7, Samsung 910T 19" flat panel, Nvidia Gforce 5200 Video card.
