digi 003 firware problem

When I open PT8 I get this message when I have my new oo3 rack+ attached.

"The 003 rack has a firmware version v7.4.0.320 which does not match the current firmware v8.0.0.314. Would you like to update to the current version? Pleasenote on some computers this may take as long as 10 minutes"

I have tried to update it 3 times using around 15 mins each time.
What is the problem?
I have PT8 installed already (not the new one bundled with the 003) is this the problem.
If I say "later" then protools opens without a problem and it recognizes the 003.

Please help!

I've tried installing the PT8 that is bundled with the 003 rack+ but it does the same when I try to update firmware. It just sits still at the PT LE8 saying updating 003 Rack system firmware - Initializing Controllers. Anyone?

Were you upgrading from an earlier PT version? You might try deleting your databases and preferences (see Digi Answerbase for more details on doing that completely and correctly), and restarting. I always just put the files in the trash, then restart and make sure everything starts up and is running okay before I empty the trash.

Where are you getting your firmware update from? Did you download it from Digi?
Is your G5 connected to the internet?
It may be that it is trying to connect to digidesign to actually download the firmware update. If the G5's not connected to the net then that would cause the symptoms you describe.

I had the same problem. Just keep trying and it will finally work. That's all I did. It's frustrating not knowing when it will take. Make sure when you are downloading firmware you don't download using your wifi. Chance the download can get scrambled. Good luck.

I've managed to get it to work by "forcing " the firmware update. It took around 45 minutes!!! Thanks for all the suggestions
