I opened a session on my PT8 LE, which was created on an HD system. In the past when I received sessions like this with over 48 tracks, all tracks over 48 would be made inactive but still accessible. I could physically move the tracks from the bottom of the session to the top, if I wanted to audition them. This time, all tracks exceeding 48 were removed from the session, no longer even located within the track bin or the edit window. Just gone.
What do I need to do in order to access these tracks over 48? Shouldn't they still show up but just as inactive? |

yes they should be - Are you sure they're not just hidden ?

Yes, I am absolutely sure. After not finding the needed tracks, I opened the same session on an HD rig and all the tracks were present and accounted for without needing to "Show all tracks"
I also opened the session on another LE rig with the Complete Tool Kit and it showed everything as well. |

Sounds like a bug

Hmm...this is occurring on three separate machines. On a Mac Pro running LE with an MBox2 Pro, a Mac Book Pro with M-Powered and on an iMac with M-Powered. I'm not disagreeing with you, however it seems very strange that all three would respond the same way.

I can't reproduce this over here - Just opened a 70+ track session on "Standard" PTLE 8.0.1 - as well as the PTLEpr 8.0.3 on OS X 10.6.1 and it acted as suspected - tracks above 48 were disabled, but visible.
if this is happening on THREE LE systems, maybe the "bug" is in the HD version you're saving this session on. Try "Save Session Copy In" - and select 6.9 --> 7.0 session with Mac / PC compat checked - From the HD system, OR from MPTK and open THAT session in Standard LE - see if it's working properly. Have you run the latest cs Update for the HD system? - What version PT HD is it?
