Default Volume curve?

I've been using the 11r into the fx loop return of a tube amp, but have been having some... meh results.

I noticed, after plugging the amp outs into a di box and sending it to the board.... crossover distortion! It was clipping, but I thought it was the amp. I was boosting the amp outs because I was treating the overall volume of the eleven rack like the knobs on my amp... I wanted 5 to be LOUD! Then again, 5 is as loud as it gets on most tube amps, and it just gets more saturated afterwards.

I guess I'm asking what is the volume curve of the 11r? I'm guessing it's not linear like I thought? I notice it's a big jump in volumes at 7.0 and 7.5, and then 7.5 to 8.0. Anyone notice the same?

What are you guys setting the volumes at with an amp fx loop? I used to boost the amp out a fair amount, but I guess I messed up there! Gonna adjust before the gig tomorrow.

Default Re: Volume curve?

How'd did you go with your Gig Aaron?
I too have experimented with a couple of amps using the return.
1 Peavey Studio Pro 112 - i tried going XLR to return and WOE it seemed to default to full volume and sounded really bad! i don't think I've actually tried amp-out so may experiment.
2 being my MkIII boogie - amp-out to fx return: whats great about it is the master volume & EQ are post return. It sounds pretty good actually. I was demoing the difference one day and the 11 got almost bang on with the MkIII crunch!

sorry didn't reply sooner mate, hope you found a good solution and am definitely looking forward to hearing what it is.

If the volume control is not set to control the "Main Outs" the XLR's will run full volume.

The tones themselves are excellent, but i'm having trouble with the volume not matching up to the regular preamp's volume.

I did adjust the settings so my 11 vol controlled the volume but I could also hear the hsssshhhhhhh of the peavey running full-tit, no master vol sucks is my conclusion :)
