Groove quantize doesn't quantize MIDI note off
I'm actually seeking help for two problems, both related to using a digigroove map for quantizing MIDI clips. The digigroove map is obtained from a simple MIDI drum track, specified resolution of 16th notes, one bar long. When using the groove to quantize other MIDI clips, the "Note Off" option in the "What to quantize" section of the Event Ops panel has no effect. Note off events are never quantized to the grid. "Note Off" checked and unchecked, behave exactly the same. Even worse, MIDI Note Off events that *are* already aligned to the grid get moved as if "Preserve Note Duration" is always checked, which it isn't. Preserve Note Duration seems to have no effect either.
Then...if I enable "Duration" in the Options section, then Note Off events do get adjusted...but in a very bad way: The duration of every note gets truncated to the length of a 16th note. Eighth notes in the perfomance get converted to 16th notes (aligned to the groove template). Obviously the original groove template had markers for all eighth notes *and* sixteenth notes. But enabling "adjust duration" makes every note a sixteenth note. I can't believe this is the intent.
Then there is the fact that there are separate options for enabling Note Off quantization, Preserve Note Duration, and optionally quantize duration. There are 2**3 combinations of these enables, Pro Tools allows them all, but there is no way they can all be valid. (Quantize Note On *and* Note Off, *and* preserve duration? Nope. Not possible.)
So what's the deal with groove quantize and MIDI note off? Is it supposed to work? Has anyone seen it work? Thanks.
