So, previously I faced an issue where 12.8.1 & 12.8.2 would crash whenever I try to quit the app (related thread here: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=393327). This turned out to be caused somehow by Guitar Rig 5 and fixable by reinstalling it completely whenever I update PT (a real pain, but at least there's a fix).
Now, however, the app has started freezing every time I try and quit, meaning I need to Force Quit it before it ever closes. Is anyone else seeing this? I've not been able to trace a specific root cause, nor identify exactly when it started happening - possibly when I installed 12.8.2R2, but I'm not certain. System details in my sig & profile.

No, not seeing that here. Have you tried trashing preferences? Does it happen without Guitar Rig installed? You may be right about it being plugin related - just need to figure out which one is causing the problem.

I installed 12.8.2 on a freshly trashed set of prefs, but I will try restoring them again with PT Prefs.
As for Guitar Rig, I will try and see what I can work out with it, but it's an intermittent issue which seems to only kick in after I've been working for a few hours, so a little tough to test with any certainty. Interesting that it seems like no one else is getting this though. Definitely suggests that 12.8.2 is responding badly to a specific plugin, like you say.

Not seeing that here. Had had that in the past though on previous version on certain occasions. Nothing for months. G

OK, so I've spent some more time investigating. Here's what I found:
This is happening every single time I open just my standard custom session, which has 0 audio data in it (just ClickII producing any sound). Each time I quit this session, even if I've made no changes, and even if I've said 'Don't save', it will freeze. Specifically, it freezes whilst displaying a full progress bar on: Closing Session… The problem is related once again to Guitar Rig v5.2.2 (the latest version). If I remove this plugin the issue goes away, and only sessions which include this plugin are affected (even if no audio goes through it). I tried restoring a stable backup of prefs from PT Prefs - did not help. I tried clearing out WaveCache & Workspace - did not help. I've done a full clear & install of this plugin in the past, to fix that similar crash (not freeze) on quit for 12.8.1. So again, I manually removed all aspects of it and re-installed it - this problem went away ONE TIME. As soon as I tried opening PT again with the same session immediately after and quitting it (no changes made or saved), it froze at exactly the same point, so the problem has immediately returned. Very annoying. Worth nothing that exactly the same version of this plugin worked fine caused no such issues on older versions like 12.7.1. Seems I'm the only one affected though.

Try going back to the previous version of Guitar Rig if you can and see if you can see the problem with that version.

I tried that with the crash issue in 12.8.1 and it still persisted, yeah. We and the tech support guys tried going back to the earliest version there was in AAX format.

Yes, I have also experienced this from time to time. Most recently today, but it doesn't happen every time. Hope there's a solution. (also the score window cursor)

I'm running 12.6.1 and I have this issue all the time, I just gave up and decided it was just part of the PT HD process, I'm use to "End Task" as a common way to quite PT....I've stoped asking why this happens, and will Avid ever fix it
I thought if I renew my subscription and update it might go away, but that does not seem to be the case

One last thing, I don't use NI Guitar Rig...so that is not part of the problem, and it still crashes with out any click track
I don't have this problem on my Mac version of PT HD 12.61, it is only a Windows issue it seems
