Default NEW SYSTEM BUILD

OK,

I have read the all the posts (I believe) for building a kick ass system. The problem is Allenstien system info is a bit outdated and I wanted to know if the Atholon is still the best bet. Or is the P4 now "caught up" with things. I was also looking at system compatability if I ever wanted to upgrade to HD and it says it doesnt like the AMD chips for that only P4 (from what I understand).

If I were going ahead with the P4..where can I lookup compatable configurations that are current, not older systems?

What are others experiances with newer P4's or AMD's?

I just dont want to buy an outdated Allenstien setup if there are now better options.

Thanks Guys!

Default Re: NEW SYSTEM BUILD

The Allenstein is still the king as far as many are concerned. I built a variation of the $600 machine (listed below) and it works so well that I just built another for a friend. The $1000 setup with the Athlon 64 is still the one that all others are measured by, but mine runs 32 audio plus stereo aux tracks with 20-30 plugins just fine. Some things may be better suited to a P4 chip but the AMD's certainly rock with ProTools. If you are bent on not following that thread, just make sure you get chipsets that are approved on the digi compatibility page. And remember that many onboard firewire ports don't play nice with PT so be prepared to spend $40 on an Adaptec fireconnect 4300 if you need it.
