anywqy out of the latency problem with mbox
I just got the mbox because I thought I was going to do that proverbial album with my laptop on a beachfront somewhere. But the latency when I am laying down the next tracks Is UNacceptable Is it really this bad or is there someway around this! I have talked to others that pretty much use it for editing and comping vocals, or not to important files.

Re: anywqy out of the latency problem with mbox
Well the only solutions are
1. to set the 'input playback ' knob (2nd from the bottom) at about 12 oclock. You will hear your live input signal mixed with the latency output from the computer. You can usually record this way with moderate difficulty. If you are using the Amplitude plugin or any other such on guitar you will hear the bizarre combo of direct guitar mixed with the plugin. 2)If you are singing, playing keyboards or using an external sound source (POD , mic and amp etc.) using an external board whether it be a Mackie or a major digital board can allow you to monitor your performance without any delay(latency) at all. Overdubing though becomes an issue when you try to monitor playback then punchin in real time. You may need an extra pair of hands at the board to do this or just use the MBox, bypass the board and hope for the best. Setting the Hardware Buffer setting to its smallest amount can reduce the delay though strain the CPU and limit the amount of trks and the amount of plugins. Hope some of this helps BB

Re: anywqy out of the latency problem with mbox
bryan's got it almost right. Yes, you turn the mix knob to the middle, so you hear your existing tracks AND your new overdub. But what he didn't mention is that you MUTE the track you're recording, so you don't hear it doubled (with delay) in your headphones.
Basically, if you don't need to hear plugins on the track you're recording, latency is a non-issue on the Mbox.

Re: anywqy out of the latency problem with mbox
Well, I only used an Mbox briefly, and didn't try Amplitube with it. Then I got an 002. On the 002, I just use a low buffer setting, 128 if possible.
Of course, I haven't used Amplitube in a while, I'm waiting for them to post a bugfix for the really annoying problems with the version from the original 002 bundle. It's pretty useless to me as is, worked much better in 5.3.2, if I recall correctly. I recently got Izotope Trash, which is a really versatile amp modeler.

Re: anywqy out of the latency problem with mbox
Yeah tele player
the `128 setting seems to be the only way ..unless you can jam without hearing the amp model. I have been monitoring half and half..so I can feel the notes with no latency but also hear a bit of the latent amp modeled sound. I use a pod alot so I have the sound on the front side. Hmmm I could also run a direct injection channel and add Amplitube after the fact opn the direct channel. thanks
