ProTools 12 interacts different with different boards, to the soundcard/interface.
Because it has a kind of artificial intelligence...

For example:

I have Lynx AEs16 PCI 19g driver...
With an Intel x58 board I can change buffer size, on the fly...
With an AMD Sr5690 board, I can't.

Same soundcard, same OS, same PT, same all.

The only way to change buffer size is to quit ProTools, and change buffer size in the DSP Mixer configuration menu of the Lynx AES16, and
ProTools will accept the new setting as the only option.

Problem for you...
003 is discontinued, "ProTools blocks discontinued hardware digi001, digi002,"
and W10 support is 12.5 only...
You don't say if you have 12.2, 12.3.1, 12.4 or 12.5

I have HD12.3.1 & W7sp1, works as good as possible.
Tested 12.4 but was a NoGo.
Haven't installed 12.5, but is the same as 12.4 "no bugs fixed," just refreshed code for the Video Engine and The Web features.

If you are using the 003 as the default Windows audio device, don't. Put Windows back to the onboard audio. Likewise, if any other software is using the 003, close it before running Pro Tools.
