So, bootable clones are history?
What about Timemachine?
(Sorry about the slight derailment of the topic here.)

Bootable clones are history. If M1 mac breaks its internal storage, it is a doorstop then. Cannot boot anything, because booting needs to happen from the security chip controlled internal storage.

Just out of curiosity, can the Mac “sleep” while attached to a Carbon interface or is it still “no-go”?

Thanks y’all for the info and help.
Damn this sounds super complicated.
I will keep you all informed of my machine switch over from Intel MacBook to iMac 24 M1 … and the prospect of needing to downgrade the OS.
I hope it ends up being simpler that I’m imagining… setting up Carbon and included PT and plugs was super easy on the 2015 MacBook. I’m only “upgrading” machines to have some more power in use, although I’m getting by with the MacBook amazingly.
Any more advice much appreciated!
Cheers !

Monterey 12.1 release candidate is just released to developers, so maybe you at least want to wait for it before making decisions...

Ok thank you. Please explain, does this mean PT/Carbon might soon be compatible?
I have to admit guys, I come from an analog background…I’m a little in over my head with regard to modifying my new iMac with a complicated OS downgrade all the tech work arounds…

Just need a solid plan here for my Carbon setup. So perhaps if I wait for compatibility I’ll be in better shape - or I can also return the iMac to Apple for now and wait…

Thanks again !

We are all still waiting for Apple Silicon native PT software (and iLok) and I'm afraid Carbon support comes later. I'm sorry but this is something nobody can anser right now.

Traditionally Avid has released a .12 version, so later this month there is hope for bit step in basic software compatibility.

Thank you for the explanation Janne.
Does the .12 imply December ? Sorry, again I haven’t set up a new system in a long long time. But I’m using my Carbon daily and in the middle of a record…
Maybe returning the new iMac is the wise move and wait until everything is compatible with the new OS… and perhaps get a M2 ($&?) machine ?? Or I can just try it and see if everything works - but I do not want to go down a rabbit hole just to get basic functionality that I already have with my intel chip MacBook… I am making music and do not like breaking flow.

Thanks so much !

Definitely. That's my plan. I'm prepared for a long wait before PT comes with native code for Apple silicon. And that's OK because I'm hoping to buy a new mac when the next generation arrives.

Not a good idea in my opinion. Very little chance of success. IMO.
