Mac &PC File Sharing?
Hello gents!
My buddy is building ACID beats on his new DELL, and lately he has been burning then to a CD, and I import the audio into Protols. Is there anyway we can hook up via ethernet and transfer them over that way instead of burning CD's? Im trying to cut down our CD-R expense. |

Re: Mac &PC File Sharing?
OS X on the mac, or Dave on the mac - but I have had stability issues directly related to Dave.
Miramar makes PCMACLAN for the PC which works fine, too. You'll need either a crossover cable to connect directly or a hub/router/switch and 2 standard ethernet cables (Cat-5) to connect the two machines.

Re: Mac &PC File Sharing?
Depends on the PC operating system. For 98se, we use MacSOHO with flawless results to a Mac running 9.2.2.
Hope this is helpful. |

Re: Mac &PC File Sharing?
You can ftp directly from the windowze machine to the Mac using the built in OSX server.
Hope this is helpful. |

Re: Mac &PC File Sharing?
Thanks Guys.
He is using Windows XP. I do have OS X. Does that make a difference. If I can share files with him in OS X then reboot with 9, and still use the files that would be great. Is that possible? |

Re: Mac &PC File Sharing?
Thanks guys.
I will attempt to transfer some files tonight. So I transfer them over to my mac in OSX, then, I can restart in OS 9 and import those files? Sorry, to be an aggravation, just wanted to make sure, I had this right. |

Re: Mac &PC File Sharing?
Yup, transfer in X, then run 9 for PT.
If you have X and 9 on separate partitions or drives, hold down the option key when booting up, and you can choose which OS you boot to. A bit fater than switching start-up discs. Hope this is helpful. |

Re: Mac &PC File Sharing?
An easier way might be to run the FTP server on the XP machine (can be installed in add/remove windows components) and then put the drum loops there and you can use an FTP client or browser from OS 9 and download them to the Mac without needing to switch back and forth between OS 10 and 9. I use this technique between an XP machine and an iMac on OS9, works very well.
If you are connected to the Internet all the time on these machines, make sure you have a firewall or something so people on the Internet can't see your FTP stuff and try and hack your computer, or worse yet steal your funky beats. |
