2048 H/W Buffer Size lost after upgrade to 6.1

2048 H/W Buffer Size lost after upgrade to 6.1

Have an MBox, Dual 1.25, running 10.2.8.

Does anyone know what I can do to get 2048 back as an option in H/W Buffer Size? I'm trying to mixdown some plug-in intensive stuff and I get lots of errors at just 1024.
