Default New G4...Best 8x8 Midi Interface?

I am getting a new Mac this week and I wondered what the best Midi interface would be to get. I currently run an XP setup with a MOTU Midi Express XT connected to the parallel port. everything works flawlessly.

Could my Express XT be used with the mac even though it doesnt have a serial port anymore? ive seen the Griffin modem to serial port converters would they work?

thanks in advance for any help.

I think the best 8x8 interface was and still is the MOTU Midi Timepiece AV serial. Get a Megawolf Remus PCI serial card for $129 and you will have the most rock-solid midi timing in the world. You don't want a USB interface because they are slow and unstable. For some reason Emagic is the only company that can workaround it. Also the serial to USB converters are just as unreliable. Stick with what is proven. Ask around about the MTP AV and the Megawolf serial cards, people will tell you.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Well... That really just depends. I use a USB Midiman 2x2 and also have "rock solid" timing.
It's fast and very stable...

interesting....

to clarify. do you think i should keep my Midi Express XT amd get a serial card for the new mac....or do i need to buy a midi timepiece AV?

I would definately rather stick with serial as i have not been to impressed with anything USB (well at least 8x8 midi interface speaking)

thanks again

rather than blow a pci slot on a serial card, get a g-port or g-whatever the other one is (around $30). it plugs in (replaces) your modem slot. and then get the motu av (serial).

yeah i saw the griffin thingy it looked pretty cool. im thinking of going with that as it is the cheapest option. i know you guys are fans of the AV but will that option work with the XT?
