Default Who has an 003 mixer and can test something on OS X?

Does anyone here have the 003 mixer (or rack if nobody chimes in with the mixer version) and can test something for me on OS X?

If so, can you please:

1) Install the latest version of the driver which is v11.1.3 and reboot

2) Open Activity Monitor in Utilities

3) Simply turn on the 003 while it is connected to your mac and see if you suddenly see a kernel task that takes up a HUGE percentage of CPU processing power? Between 50% and 100%? Possibly even causing your fans (depending on your model of Mac) to kick into high hear and blow loudly?

The 003 is still a supported interface in PT 11, but even since the v11 drivers, I see this behavior and need to confirm that others are seeing it too.

Thanks to anyone who has this interface and can test this and chime in.

PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT ON THIS THREAD WITH SUGGESTIONS IF YOU DO NOT OWN THE 003 AND THUS CANNOT RUN THIS TEST.

Much appreciated.

I can try this for you. Do you wish for a specific OS X version?

Thanks! I see this huge kernel task on multiple machines and multiple OS X versions. But If you could please check Mountain Lion and/or Mavericks that would be fantastic.

Thanks, Deng. How about when you launch PT and use the 003 as the Playback Engine with this v.11.1.3 driver?

Marcel, let me know when you try too please!!

Thank you guys.

PT idle 10%, Playback 40%
003 idle 0%, Playback 0.7%

Thanks, Deng. I'll be interested to hear what Marcel and any others have to report as well, but if the results are the same as they are for you, that would mean the 002 has the problem and not the 003. I own two 002s - a rack and a mixer - and am not thrilled about the current interface offerings to replace them.
But a used 003 might be the ticket.

Please, anyone else who can do this test so I have more data would be MUCH appreciated

I don't have time for a thorough test, but I can tell you that I'm completely happy with the new 003 mixer driver for PTHD11.3. The two are working well and without any weird CPU overhead on my black Mac Pro.

AND, the new Core Audio functionality makes the 003 series far more valuable than they used to be.

Thank you, Nathaniel. That sounds like another vote for the 003 not having this CPU problem that the 002 does. That is incredibly unfortunate. They are so few differences between the 002s and 003s 0 -- which is why the driver for them has always been the same -- that I wonder why there is this clear CPU difference.
I agree that the new driver enabling them for audio output for OS X is a fantastic option.
I'm just really sad that, though they both work, the 002s are having this CPU issue.
I can still use it but I can't deal with the CPU spike that causes my iMac's fans to run like a jet engine.
I might try to buy a used 003, but I bet even the 003s won't be supported for much longer if at all. So it might be unwise to invest any money in an already on-the-edge-of-support interface.

If anyone else can try this and reply, I would still appreciate it -- the evidence is sure pointing to 003s NOT having the CPU issue and the 002s having it.

I'm really sorry,
My local sever had a system disk crash and I had spend time on it to bring it up as fast as I could.
I'll see what I can do tomorrow.
