Default Identify Beat Help!

Im trying to use a sample of an mp3 i imported into pro tools LE 8. I imported it in as a stereo audio track. I would like to find out what the tempo of this audio track is and have pro tools map out the grid so that the beat fits nicely into the song and goes with the click without drifting. I tried using tab to transients and using identify beat to find it however it will not give me the option to use identify beat. Im almost positive this is because I have something else turned on that im not aware of. Sometime back I noticed that the "selection points" (blue arrows above the tempo bar) stay in place and do not move when i select a new area with the cursor. Is this possibly whats keeping identify beat from opening? How do I go about changing this option so that i can easily loop playback on a selection without it having to line up with the grid? Thanks in advance for any help.
