Default dont even know where to start

so just got a new macbook pro with mountain lion 10.8.. and i have an mbox 2 mini with pro tools 8 that ive had for awhile and my old computer just got to old to run it properly any more so i thought the mac would be a good upgrade. then i find out mountain lion doesnt support pro tools 8. or any other version of pro tools it seems. i already spent all this money on the computer and some other upgrades..wasnt expecting to have to upgrade my pro tools either. what can i do to make this work? i was looking to downgrade the os to one that supports pro tools le 8. can anyone offer advice/ suggestions?
thank you im just super confused and lost right now.

If downgrading the system doesn't work, you could start here:

http://www.avid.com/Trial/ProTools

If you find you like it, upgrading from PTLE8 is $399.

Better check with the "Genius" at the Apple store. You might have to buy an older, used computer if you want to go back to Snow Leopard.

I don't think PT9 works with 10.8.

Also, the only Mbox that comes bundled with full Protools now is the Mbox 3 Pro.

Unless you can still find a dealer that has the older ones in stock.

Note that any of them that say PT9 actually give you PT10.

If you play guitar, you might consider an Eleven Rack, which can be had for $639 and comes with PT10.

I don't think you can downgrade the OS of a new Mac below the version that it ships with.

Just a thought - if you have access to a version of Windows 7 you might be able to run PT8 under Bootcamp. Could be more trouble that it's worth, but whatever, something to investigate - there are threads and videos out there about running 8 in Win7.

Option A) Return new Mac within 30 days. Buy a newer used Mac that will work with PTLE 8, PT9 and PT10. Also check the Apple Store for a Refurb unit if you want something that with a warranty.

Option B) Keep new Mac. Pony up 400.00 for the latest version of Pro Tools.

Yes, you can, but it depends on the OS. We upgraded all of our old G5s to MacPros and dropped back from Mtn Lion to Lion so we could run without 9171 errors all day!!

Was the downgrade a hack or something that can be done 'officially'?
