Default Need help with mbox 2 pro and protools LE 8.0.4

Hello people,

I bought an Mbox2 pro.My computer is an iMac 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 with 4 GB of ram with Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
I also bought a Lacie d2 quadra with firewire 400, 800 and usb 2.0.

I connected my mac with the mbox pro after installing pro tools and the hardware was not found.I used a firewire adapter to go from 800 to 400.The powerlight was orange and flashing.

Then I tried something else:I connect the mac to de HD , firewire 800 to 800 and the mbox pro to the HD 400 to 400.

The hardware was found and protools launched.I loaded the demo session and it played without a problem. When I tried it again I got error 6085: buffer underflow no matter what buffersize I used.

I did a search and read that the HD should be connected to fw 400.So maybe this little adaptor is faulty.

Thanks, Phil.

It's possible the adapter is funky, but not that likely. If I plug the FW to the MBox2Pro before booting up my MacbookPro, playback always gets halted in Pro Tools, giving me an error that sounds similar to what you are encountering. My workaround has been to wait until the computer is booted and THEN plug the FW to the MBox, and everything runs smoothly from there.

p.s. I usually never connect my HD via 400. Not that you cannot, but I have always used 800 and never had any issues.

Hey Plastikman, I did what you sugested and it worked.
Thank you.

Can you damage something when plugging firewire while the computer is running?

Phil.
