a little too close to home my friend!

seriously, this exact thing happened once and after spending three hours on it... I played it through the Aurotones and the guy was was like "whoa... what was that sound? I think that part should be silent!"

I just said.... "perfect.... good call!"

at least I charge by the hour

i was a pro tools tech for a consignment bay i had at a Promo house in hollywood ...

the first day i was teaching the op/composer that comes from the cakewalk world about pro tools ...

well she walks out of the room to get something and a producer and the TV guide client come into the room and start asking for all these sound FX for their :30 spot ... i am trying to tell them that the op is not here and i am the tech ... they are not listening and spew, yes, spew out a list of things they want to see in the spot SFX wise ... i barely have the system up and running ..

the op comes back in and i tell her what happened .. she says, "i do not know pro tools yet can you do this" .. and she leaves to go do something .. these guys come back in about 15 minutes later and want to see the spot Done ... no SFX server yet, so i am fishing around trying to find whooshes and other things ... i get about 5 or 6 out of two dozen before they walk back in .. they only liked one FX i had found ...

they cannot figure out why it is not Done yet ... i try again to tell them i am the tech .. blah blah blah .. they are listening as well as a 2 week old puppy ... they just want to be licked and stroked and i want them to go lay down and take a cat nap ...

i got it done hours later ... but this brings back some scary memories ..

thanks for sharing that ... makes me feel good about my career choice .. i stayed in TV production from then on ...

cheers

john
