Default USB/DVI matrix switcher

hey all: i'm looking for a good USB/DVI matrix switcher.... i have two rigs connected to an ICON and an editor's station and am currently using the Gefen HD5500S to extend the USB/DVI (plus an additional USB extender for the second rig) and then a Gefen 4x4DVI kvm Matrix switcher... i've had nothing but problems from the start with this unit though... we had a lot of problems with the computer's video card freaking out when switching destinations, which was finally fixed by purchasing two DVI detectives..... but now, i'll loose usb control when switching back and forth, etc etc... i've had just about enough of this box. any other suggestions?

thanks-
colin

Default Re: USB/DVI matrix switcher

I finally gave up on the Gefen DVI/KVM switcher. I had one for about a month, never worked right. I kept losing switching control. The unit just locked up. Customer service said it was a "known issue" but just asked me to be patient while they figured out a fix for it. My patience finally ran out and I returned the unit to my local dealer for a full refund.

I have many Gefen boxes of different kinds, including the CAT 5000 extenders, etc. I have had a 50 per cent failure rate with all Gefen products right out of the box. They are expensive products that only work half the time. I have replaced some of them with cheaper brands that work great every time. I think they have a design or QC problem.

My advice: Send it back and live without it for now.

Mike

If your willing to have two monitors up one for each system you could use teleport http://www.abyssoft.com/software/teleport/

It is a virtual KM switcher and works great. You can even drag and drop files under 1Mb from system to system from the finder.

hope this helps.
