Default Help! Canopus crashes dual 1ghz??

Hey,
Sorry for another slightly off-topic post about the Canopus ADVC-100, but this seems like the most knowledgable forum around for this box.

I just bought one and plugged it into the firewire port on my Dual-1ghz mirror-door powermac and kablooey! The computer just freezes and sometimes the Firewire drives on the other port don't show up.

Has anyone encountered this or know of a fix? I'm running OS 9.2.2 and Digital Performer on the front end of an HD 1 system.

This was supposed to be more solid than the dc30+, right?

Runs ok on mine, but doesn't capture PAL in os 9.2.2 only in 10.2.1.
I'm using BTV-Pro to capture, but no Firewire drives.
Can you try it on another machine?

Thanks for the reply... yeah I 'm going to try it on an earlier mac. Stupid question... does it matter whether you use the 4pin camera style FW port to your computer or the big 6pin one on the back?
thanks!

As far as I know they are the same, I'm using the 4 pin also, which converts to the 6 pin (ie Supplied cable) Works ok.
I'll check with the macs guys here and see if they can think of anything.

Good Luck.

Try going back a version on the Mac OS9.X Fire Wire extensions - we we're having nightmares with these boxes and the new G4's - until we tried the older ones, once we did that all was tickety-boo!

Gearbox.
THANKS! I went from 2.8.7 down to 2.8.5 and all of a sudden my firewire bus started to act normal again. With the newer drivers the FW drives and the canopus were not coexisting at all.

Ok, so it seems to be working now. Scrubbing feels a little slower than the miro card, but otherwise the quality seems good.

Once again the DUC saves my butt...

hey out there-

not exactly OT, but have any of you Canopus users noticed that if you grab and hold the scroll bar on the bottom of the mix window in PT, all display elements seem to freeze? the FW video freezes, the meters freeze, and the location line in the edit window freezes. if i hit the scroll arrows instead of grabbing the bar, this problems doesn't seem to happen.

fluke? problem? PT 5.1.1, G4/933, OS 9.2.2, tons of RAM, EchoFire in use, QT 5.0, audio from ATTO/SCSI chain, video from internal ATA drive.

thanks...
