Re: access violation
Access violations can be caused by quite a number of different issues, including but not limited to, out of date plugins, using illegal ("cracked") versions of plugins, compressed files on the hard drive, hard drive errors, etc.
So, some quick things to check;
To even start to help you further, though, we need to know exactly what we're working with. You should first read through the General Troubleshooting - Pro Tools 6 & 7 Win XP thread. Some of the suggestions there might help, but if not, there are instructions for how to post the information we need to help you. We need both a Sandra report, and a report of what plugins you have installed using the Tech Support Utility in the Tech support folder that thread recommends downloading.

Re: access violation
Again, compressed files on the hard drive and/or hard drive errors can cause this issue. On a machine that you have been using that long, it's not uncommon for hard drives to fail, or start failing. Which is why I recommended you check.
Whether or not you have been using the system for as long as you have doesn't have anything to do with the fact that we still need that information to help you. It may also be caused by something I haven't mentioned here, which is why I qualified my original statement by saying "including but not limited to".
