Default 'Flashing' MBox 2 Firmware on PC?

Hi all,

I've been told to try 'flashing' lost firmware on to a Mbox 2, and was wondering if anyone could clarify this for me.

I re-installed Pro Tools 9 on a PC (i'm a mac user generally) running Windows 7, then downloaded and ran the Firmware for Mbox 2 on a PC. The MBox didnt come to life or exhibit any difference, I was wondering if I'd missed a step (namely the actualy 'flashing' process.

Apologies if this is exhibiting mass ignorance, I searched but wasn't celar as to what the flashing bit was.

I'm a little curious as to how one 'Loses' Firmware. Usually the only way to lose it is by flashing over existing firmware.

When flashing any firmware, there is always the potential to ruin a perfectly working piece of hardware. There is usually strict guidelines provided by manufacturers on how to flash firmware and once done, it either works straight away or it doesn't work at all.

So unless absolutely necessary and you know exactly what you're doing, stay away from flashing firmware.

As am I to be honest, but unfortunately Digidesign

A few days ago I was updating my firmware from 1.38 to 1.43 (Mbox 2, Intel Macbook pro) and halfway through it all froze up.

I've tried drivers, driver updaters, reinstalling and wiping clean software (pro tools 9) trying to install core audio drivers with earlier disks, even using windows 7, vista and xp machines to install to see if anything would breathe some life in to my now dead mbox.

As it stands I'm going to have to replace it anyway, as Digidesign won't speak to me unless I pay them (yep, despite the fact I was following their advice and updating the firmware) so 'flashing' is a last resort, though I'm not sure if it involves just installing the firmware on an XP machine or if there's more involved.

If you are getting no sign of life in the Mbox upon power up, in all likelihood you have a major problem & should get it checked out by a technician. No amount of installing drivers or changing software will make any difference.
