Default Some midi notes are not played in instrument tracks

Hi guys,

I think this is a common problem, sometimes some midi notes are just not played during playback, even if they should be. This often occurs when having fast midi notes one after another.

Can you tell me what to do to get rid o this problem? I think Iīll have to do something with the hardware settings (processors, buffer size etc.) but I donīt know what exactly.

Thanks!

Well, it could be one of two or three thousand things...

Hows about you give us a little more detail? What plugin are you using as an instrument?, what type of voicing are you using? how fast (tempo and note value), etc...

For instance.. I have an idea that I'm fleshing out right now that I want a violin lead part in.. (VI violin). 60 bpm.. In a couple of spots I use 16th notes.. at 60 bpm there shouldn't be an issue.. HOWEVER, since the instrument I chose has a relatively long attack on the note to simulate the bow beginning it's move across the string, it takes a tich before the note actually comes up to snuff. (a lot of legato stuff going on). When I go to the 16th note change, it has moved to the next note before the original note comes up to strength. When listening in the mix, you can't even really tell that anything was played... I've had to go back and change the note value in places, and the attack in others.

Now.. if this is NOT what is happening to you.. Please disregard! and post a bit more info..

Cheers!

Yes this is a known issue. When note gate lengths overlap the note start of the same pitch the note events are not triggered.

Workaround is to either Quantize or Trim the note gate lengths to the note start.

Hi, no, thatīs not it :). Overlpped notes with same pitch are played.

Currently Iīm using East West Symphonic Orchestra, but this has also been a problem with simple plugins like Xpand!2 with my basslines I use for songs or the new Mini Grand Piano. And even not only with short fast notes, but also with normal notes. Sometimes they are just not played and it of course doesnīt sound good :).

I just donīt wanna relaunch ProTools all the time, because usually itīs gone then.

Hi guys, this problem is really going somewhere I donīt like it.

Just listen to some simple drums I bounced, they sound like a child plays them. What the hell is wrong? For 10 seconds it just went very well. I did actually only load xpand to look if the midi notes are placed well. When I removed it it just worked for a short time.
then got back to this out of time sloppy stuff.

What do I need to do that the midi notes are played when they should be? Please help, I canīt work like this...

Patill if you are running OS X 10.6.x with PT LE 8.0.3pr you do so at your own risk.

I had the same problem with my midi falling behind the beat until I realized it was my latency. My buffer was to high. I'm not sure if this is it but it's worth a try.
