Default stage inputs and HD playback simultaneously

Hi all,

Is there a way to playback 30 HD channels while having 34 analog inputs from Stage and FOH (8 inputs available at FOH)? Can I do it with 1 snake card + 1 HDx card? Or do I have to add another snake card to make it work?

Maybe move the ribbon cable for the HDx card to the second Mix Engine, enable stage rack 2 and then set stage rack 2 for HDx 2? If that would work, you would lose your ability to virtual soundcheck off Stage Rack 1, though.

i think Dave's suggestion is the only thing that may work.

of course, the question is, can you not send some stems from protools to the venue? do you need fader control of all 30 things individually? Especially bearing in mind you can add as much automation as you like in protools.

we actiually did our opener this way. i had a control surface out in rehearsal, mixed the protools session in protools, added automation for the different sections, and then sent back 8 stems (5 stereo, 3 mono) to venue for mix control.

technically, this requires 2 snake cards and 2 HDx cards. You can then use the HDx 1 and 2 assignables for up to 32 channels of Pro Tools playback with simultaneous stage input.

edit: missed option 1 below.. very cool, if you have no other recording/playback requirements all you would need is an HD|Core card on the Pro Tools side.

Thanks All,

I have just received this mail from Sheldon:

Two options:
  1. Connect a single HDx card to the second mix engine card, and use the HDx2 inputs.
  2. Connect HDx1 and HDx2 and use the HDx assignable (32 maximum)

In either case a second snake card is needed, as this provides the master clock for HDx2.
