Pro Tools 24/Mix quits to finder on launch when I have
NI ABSYNTH 2 or NI BATTERY 2 or NI Kontakt or NI Kompakt or NI Impakt installed as RTAS plugs. If I remove them from the Digi Plug-Ins folder then Pro Tools launches perfectly. But if ANY of those plugs are in the folder then it QUITS to the finder with no error message or warnings - just the 'Do you want to file a report with Apple?' message. Also - although it does not prevent Pro Tools from launching, Reaktor now causes the same Quit to Finder when selected as a Plug-in. I had been using 6.4.1 for months in OS 10.3.4 and all of these plugs worked perfectly in Pro Tools. BUT last week my main OS X HD corrupted and even DiskWarrior couldn't fix it so I had to buy a new HD and re-install Pro Tools and all its plug-ins. Of course I had to re-install OS 10.3 but stupidly I ran the update and it installed 10.3.7 which I know is unsupported for 24/Mix. Is my best option to re-install AGAIN but just updating to 10.3.4? PRO TOOLS 24/MIX 888/24 v6.4.1 CoreAudio 6.7 G4 733 QS 1.12GB RAM OS 10.3.7 LOUNGE LIZARD SONY INFLATOR ANTARES AUTOTUNE ANTARES FILTER TC TOOLS TRILOGY YELLOW TOOLS CULTURE all work fine... PLS HELP! Burt |

I use Battery 2.1 now with PT 6.7cs8 and, yes, it is still far from what Sample Cell used to be but...we're in another universe now and the past is not prologue. I would make sure to reference the PT 6.x troubleshooting link from the opening page of this users forum.
If your rig was running fine under 10.3.4 then go back to it. I know it's pain in a**e but that is the quick fix. And remember to repair disk permissions on your boot drive after re-installing PT (preferably from the OS install disk). The cs upgrades for 6.4 were not that great IMO. If you can go to 6.7 as a customer under warranty (I'm not sure of the your whole deal there) I would do that. I did notice that you had Core Audio 6.7 installed. I liked the previous one better because you could dedicate which apps were compatible from the CA preferences itself. I don't know why they changed that ('cause they could!). But you do not have to install CA 6.7 when you update 6.7 if you don't want to (do a custom install). I had an enormous problem with incompatible RAM when I first started using NI Products (Battery only) and the apps still don't work like they say they should so i do a work around with careful mixing from the 2 buss (I do a lot of acoustic stuff with lots of percussion). I would really make sure my RAM is tight, which means doing the hardware test from the OS Install disk--which means removing all your PT cards and exchanging RAM until your box works. Also you may want to check and make sure your boot drive jumpers are set to "Master" and it is attached to the first node on the ATA buss cable--some G4s came with the drive installed as Cable Select on the second node and that is fine if you're a gamer or dorking around on the web. If you're doing professional audio you need to make sure that your master is your master...which is to say 'you're your own boss!' I've been on the phone with NI in L.A. since installing Battery 2.1 on several occasions and feel like I'm helping them more then they help me and I'm no genius! The app is fine as far as it goes but the workarounds are a pain. But if there are any RAM card issues I would look there first, especially on a G4. I do know this: the more RAM the better on NI apps and then they're still buggy. I want my old Sample Cell back...adressable through the Digibuss and mono or stereo whenever you want!...but alas, that is not to be...unless we make it a priority for Digi folks.... Maybe it's time....But! good luck and I hope this helps...and I welcome any tips from others 'cause, like I said, I'm no genius... Fellow NI traveller J Fred in Nashville

Hi J Fred
thx for the advice... I've just reformatted the new HD and starting installing OS X AGAIN.... this time I will just update to 10.3.4 and hope it works... Battery 2 worked fine since it came out on my system until I had my HD die and re-installed... likewise even Reaktor worked in 6.4.1 if I only used the lighter CPU intensive ensembles... My HD is def' set to MASTER and my RAM didn't give me any problems before so I'm PRAYING its just the 10.3.7 messing things up... I'll try going back to the earlier CoreAudio too... NI can be buggy but I think their products are worth the hassle... for the more intensive Reaktor stuff I use it standalone on my Powerbook and pipe it into Pro Tools via 24 bit interface... works great for the heavy duty stuff. thx again... even if it means another half day reinstalling everything I agree that its probably the best option in this case...
