is there Windows 4k support on the horizon?
title says it all really... I'm blown away that it's not 4k ready now tbh... I didn't notice it too much on mac but now I've switched to Windows it feels like it's desperately needed tbh.

Re: is there Windows 4k support on the horizon?
Yeah, wondering myself what the holdup is. Meanwhile, I run my 32" screens at 1920x1080(100% scaling) and things look fine for my old eyeballs. Remember, unless you have large screens, 4K makes everything smaller(which may be a non-issue for you)

Re: is there Windows 4k support on the horizon?
yeah but that's what they'd sort out by optimising it for 4k, the text etc wouldn't be mega small. but the waveforms etc would all be high res, for example.
the fact it still has old school blue windows borders and can't be split over multiple screens is crazy though tbh.. aren't they now making decent cash from people paying subscriptions etc? these are basic things really tbh..! I get that functionality is the main thing & I'm enjoying working on my new PC from that point of view, but coming from mac to windows it's a real shock to see the Windows Vista vibes in Pro Tools - especially when Windows 11 looks so nice..! |

Well if you look at the responses as an indicator of it's importance to users, it will still be a while before they address it.
We know it will eventually happen but I would guess there are lots of things they see as a bigger issue to users right now.

I run 3 screens 1920x1080 and it works. But I agree ... AVID should support 4K.

Re: is there Windows 4k support on the horizon?
I really would love to like using Pro Tools on windows, but after so many years working on Mac I just can't get passed the whole 'windowed windows' thing that Pro Tools has on PC.
Do you know if it is a microsoft/windows requirement that people just need to live with? Or could Avid also correct it so that separate floating windows for the mix and edit screen are all that is needed?

Re: is there Windows 4k support on the horizon?
Yep that single window is a bummer.
I expect the single window is a result of Pro Tools using the ancient Mac2Win software from since deceased Altura software company. (https://www.Altura.com is a VC firm, founded by the previous Altua software founder/CEO). Presumably Digidesign/Avid had a source code license and parts of that still lives on in Pro Tools on Windows, you'll occasionally see "AlturaPorts" pop up in Pro Tools assert error messages on both Windows and Mac. Some info here, but I'm not aware of any documentation online or what parts of stuff Pro Tools still uses. See http://www.jonhoyle.com/machack/cros...approaches.pdf. I have no idea at all how hard this would be to remove dependence on mac2win, or fix it to allow separate windows. I have the gut feeling from all the problematic UI issues Pro Tool has had that there is a lot of stuff on both platform that still needs major rewrites. There is nothing like a major rewrite to cause problems. :-( |

Re: is there Windows 4k support on the horizon?
I was running mine at 4K but the text on Protools was way too small. Even with reading glasses on I had to get within 5" or so of the screen to read it on my 27" Screen so I dropped the resolution to 1920 x 1080.

Unfortunately the LG TV-set broke. Next time perhaps 5-10 inch more. Bigger than that would prolly be too big being forced to twist head around. /T

any updates on this? I've sat out the last year of PT updates so vaguely hoping they've added it at some stage
