Default Cannot record!!!!!!!

i have a digi 003 running protools 7.4.2, into an imac with 2.8ghz processor and 4GB of ram. we're recording an album and have all of the drums and guitars done, now we're about to do bass and the system keeps freezing up and telling us to "increase the buffer size", but that does not work. any suggestions?

You're gonna need to post more specs..

OS version?
Plugins?
Are ALL your plugins up to date?
How many tracks?
How many plugins/VIs?

Read this thread:

http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=193636
to get an idea of what is required...

I have found not to add plugins until after the tracks are recorded as the low latency makes a big difference in cpu use and system stop/hangs. I usually use a reference mix track to record against so I can keep my latency as low as possible.

Good luck.

OS version 10.5.5
plugins - eleven, lo-fi, eq and compression
not sure if all my plugins are up to date, how do i check?
21 tracks including aux tracks
no VIs, 13 plugins running

i keep getting these messages

"The operating system held off interrupts for too long. if this occurs frequently, try increasing the H/W BUffer size in the Playback Engine panel. (-6086)"

tried it, didn't help

"you are running out of CPU power. remove some plugins or increase the CPU Usage Limit in the Playback Engine dialog. (-9128)

tried it, didn't help

there's also another message that comes up about losing communication with the hardware device.

OMG THIS IS A SIMPLE ONE GUYS! 7.4.2 is only compatible with OS 10.5.4 and I belive 10.5.3. NOT 10.5.5 and above!

Mmmmm....maybe. I'm pretty sure when I first started running PT on Leopard I was using 10.5.5 with 7.4.2 and I didn't have a problem.

Theres not an easy way (yet) to check if any plugs are outta date. If you were originally running an earlier version of PT before upgrading to 7.4.2 and didn't reinstall ANY plugs, theres a pretty good chance some are outta date.

How many processors are allocated for RTAS plugs? If 2, try bumping down to 1. Also eleven is a HUGE CPU hog

Navigate to:

<Mac HD>/Library/Application support/digidesign/plug-ins

Get info on each one (all plugs, not just the ones in your session) to see it's version then compare to this list:

Plug in compatibility

What's your Hard drive setup?

On the Setup > Playback engine page there is also the option to "ignore errors during playback/record". Give that a try as well..

Temporarily get rid of the eleven plugins, they take about 20% cpu alone, they're a nightmare, or use sansamp temporarily if yu have it.

Audiosuite the tracks if you need to process the eleven sound.
