Default Ordering Custom G4\'s Anyone?

Was wondering if anyone can recommend a vendor (San Jose, CA) or web site that will customize G4's to order. I'm a PC-to-MAC guy and I've read about the 'ease' of upgrading G4's but I really don't want to spend any time inserting /upgrading/debugging SCSI/IDE cards or mem upgrades when I can be recording away! 'I'll spend a little extra cash, but give me what I want' is what I say.

Any input would be great.
Thanks
Chuy

You can buy a customized G4 directly from Apple.

As far as the SCSI card goes, just buy the Atto card pre-configured from Digidesign, and you'll have nothing to worry about.

BTW, installing memory in a G4 is not rocket science by any stretch of the imagination.

Like Lee says, it's a no brainer.

Be aware that 400 mhz is the fastest you can get from Apple direct these days. The 450/500s are dual processors.

If you buy from Computerware you can get Toshiba RAM (red). Is that what you were referring to?

What have you heard about Apple's OEM RAM?

Or get your local ProTools dealer to order you a Mac. My dealer got me a G3, mounted it in a Marathon rack, installed the Digi hardware and software and made sure it all worked for what I would have paid for the pieces seperately. Basically, the labor was free for me, and they have a very satisfied customer.

Check out: http://www.mcis.com

MCIS gave me a great price on a custom dual 500Mhz G4 & they're installing everything for free too. The advantage of going with a place like MCIS is they ONLY build custom Macs for music & graphic applications, & just as important, they asked all the right questions & answered all of mine to build a Mac that did everything I needed it to. My salesman Raul even told me to hold off on ordering until he could see if Apple unveiled anything at the Mac Expo that was coming up in NYC. In fact, he called me from the show to tell me about the new dual G4s that were just demonstrated, & after speaking with me he ordred me one right there.

My PT dealer is DesktopAV.com in North Carolina (http://www.desktopav.com/)(800/884-2983). Tell Bill Columbus that Chris from Barnabas Multimedia sent you. He'll take care of you.

FYI. Protools equipment is sold by teritorial dealers, so he might not be able to sell you PT stuff, but he could build you a great Mac.

The guy at Guitar Center
(who I just bought a Digi001 from)
gave me the name of a company that will set you up with a G4.

They even have a web site.
www.powermax.com
1-800-844-3599
He said to ask for Maiya.
I have her working up a quote for me.
