Used Data Recovery Service for Hard Drive and now cannot open sessions.
I get a Pro Tools error window stating that the session was created with an older version of pro tools and can not be opened. Im am opening them on the exact same system i created the sessions on. PT LE 7.3 I tried on my other systems, Mac osx 10.6 w/ PT 9.0.6HD and Mac Lion OS w/ PT 10HD. Same error. I tried trashing the prefs and database folders and using another drive. I also tried a new session importing the data. Same error occurs and I cant even get to the import session data window. Is there a PT session fixer, like the program "wav fixer" . That would be rad. Any ideas! thanks! |

a) do the session file(s) have and extension?
b) if they do what is the extension? try making a new session and use import session data importing the old session or try adding the correct extension for the version you are using (.pts or .ptf)

When you go back prior to the PT9 days, I am reasonably certain that Pro Tools was doing some non-standard disk reads and writes (although Avid has not confirmed this).
If this is the case, the data recovery operation may have totally hosed your disk as far as Pro Tools is concerned. Hopefully Avid can provide you with some more hopeful news...

thanks for your replies. much appreciated.
Bill, it seems like you may be on to something. Every Pro Tools files (.ptf) on the drive (every session folder and project) does the same thing and does not open. Everything else recovered fine. Odd that its only the .ptf files that had some sort of "corruption" Craig, thanks but i tried that already and they are .ptf files. I tried messing with the extension too just in case, but it didnt work. |

Try this; create a new session and import session data from one that refuses to open?

the very absurd thing
about data recovery softwares is the fact that the recovered files have not the name as when assigned but only a numerical code perfect way for become insame... to check each file and rename it :[ |
