Powerbook takes forever to boot with PT 6.9
Hello all,
Ok here goes, I did a fresh install of 0S 10.3.9 on my Powerbook G4 550. Tested the time it took to boot into the OS on startup, it was quick. Tested for a few days with the same results. Did a fresh install of Pro tools Le 6.9 and the core audio driver on the computer, and now it takes forever to bootup. I repaired permissions and still taking forever. Now, If I do a verbose boot ( that is when you hold the apple key and the letter V) it doesnt take as long. Any Ideas? Thanks

Re: Powerbook takes forever to boot with PT 6.9
Did you install Quicktime 7 along with 10.3.9? QT7 and the Digi CoreAudio driver don't get along in 10.3.9, that might be the reason for the extended boot up time. I haven't heard of that particular symptom before, but the conflict has been known to cause all kinds of other problems so it's a possibility.

Re: Powerbook takes forever to boot with PT 6.9
I have been a dedicated PC user for years and went to Mac for PT in Dec last year with a G5 Quad. I still have PC's and I am very happy with PC's. I am over the moon with the Mac and in all honesty I find it a tad more stable in the audio recording/mixing enviroment.I have worked on PC based editing for nearly 10 years with SADiE, Akai, Cool Edit and Cubase Audio/SX, and I have played on a Mac with PT since PT3, they have thier pro's and cons on both systems, but over all, I am very pleased I bit the bullet and went Mac based.
I still use my PC's for DV film editing as I cant afford the video software yet for my Mac, upgradeing to PT7 and upgrading Waves and a few other bits and bobs has been an expensive time.

Can't say I blame you, I read that post and was wondering what planet he was from too.
Is everything running OK once you boot up? If so then I wouldn't worry about it, that's a pretty old Powerbook, my Mom also has a G4 550 (which doesn't have ProTools on it), and it also takes several minutes to boot, so I think it's normal. |

You know, I havent really tried my M-box yet to see if it works ok, but I do know when I did the fresh install of OSX, it booted in about 25 seconds. Now sometimes it boots quick and sometimes it takes forever. So it is sort of intermitint. Sorry for being so sarcastic, I thought it was funny, and now I know how it feels to be Jeramy Roberts.
