Default IMA 4:1 compressed audio algorhythm

Hi everyone,

I know this is not directly related to Pro Tools, but I figured it'll be seen by more ppl than other forums round here.

Does anyone know what IMA 4:1 audio data compression scheme work? I'm working on a multimedia project that requires we deliver 22/16 qt audio files encoded in IMA 4:1. I just want to know if anyone know how it data compresses audio files... (Many websites don't get into how it does it...)))

Thanks!

I don't know the algorithm but i made a CD-ROM with IMA 4:1 compression (the client wanted it).
The file is always stereo, so for speech is memory vasting. The sound quality is low and is not as good as an MP3 file.
I really don't like this format.
In fact i then convincted the client to make the next CD-ROM using another format, and we did.

666 & Jim, thanks for your reply.

Jim - I did locate the link you posted, but I'm still missing the info on how it does the data compression...
