Re: HOW MUCH RAM
So are you saying you have Win XP on the 5400 rpm
drive and you have tried this drive in both systems and no DMA shows up? If so, it's the drive. Get a new one. |

Re: HOW MUCH RAM
I just talked to some computer builders. I live in the silicion valley, they say that windows XP auto enables DMA mode on all drives. The only OS I have on any computer is Windows XP.

Re: HOW MUCH RAM
But auto enable means that dma will only be enabled on hard drives that support dma.
If your 5400rpm drive is not a dma capable drive then XP will not enable it. |

Re: HOW MUCH RAM
Hey, it worked!
Great! Can't remember when I have been accused of having a positive attitude except when I said I was positive it was going to be a bad day. But thanks for the compliment anyway. To be fair though I have to confess that this thread was not just about you. It was about me too. You see I have Win XP on 5400 rpm WD drive and I know my drive is not DMA capable and I have been struggling with the thought spending more money just to get a few more tracks out of 5.3.1. Like to upgrade the memory too. 7-12-01 Update I upgraded my memory from 256 to 768 and it did NOT help to increase performance. I switched out my 5400 system drive for a 7200 rpm ultra dma capable drive and both drives now have dma enabled. That did help but not much because my session drive was already that way. |
