Default Happy with the G5?

I've got a G5 1.6 on the way, and wondering what to expect from it. Any advise, warnings, good/bad experiences, etc? Is that noise problem still around? (I had the same problem with an old eMac) Thanks for any input - I'm both excited and scared at the same time.

I've had a start button-initialization problem, and can hear a very low noise floor pulse via firewire if I crank everything.

Apple told me friday they have a fix for both. 3-6 days at the serivce center

Otherwise the G5 will be the beast Apple claims, but there are still some bugs...

NO! not happy at all, the is a MAJOR issue with the G5's, I posted a link here telling you all about it. here it is, copy it and paste it in your browser:

http://duc.digidesign.com/showflat.p...rue#Post567420

whats more depressing, go to Apple.com, Support, and search under "G5 Noise" or CHUD"
and what EVEN worse, do a Google.com under G5 noise, appearantly there are about 49,000 sites on this. Apple did a little booboo.

Thanks for the input. I was having the same noise problem with my old eMac which I sold for the G5. So I guess I'll be used to it.

Amen to that. If I hadn't gotten it so cheapI would have stuck to the eMac.

Hey Hey!

Just picked up a Dual 1.8G and an Mbox. (I assure you the G5 is for more than just ProTools)

Although I had been running Jaguar for a few months, I still hadn't really figured out a lot of the unix stuff such as permissions and multi-user issues. So I had some bumps as I tried to start using it, but they all seem to have had to do with permissions. (I had copied an entire partition of my firewire drive onto the other partition and ended up with everything set to read only)

I'll be looking into this noise issue, or is it just with the 002R?

I wonder if anyone can help me with a related question: When I installed I got 30 day trials of DigiTranslator and DV Toolkit. I don't believe I have a need for these at the moment, but would like to save the 30 day trials for later. Right now I have to click "Quit" for each of these dialogs that pop up whenever I start ProTools. How can I set these aside for use later?

Thanks, Archmart

Have you experienced any other problems yet?

On the trials I think once you get them started that's it - at least until you initialize your drive and start fresh again.
