MBOX is slowing my audio in Final cut and QT Apps (help?)

I have finally isolated my problem. First let me describe it. When edit in FCP 5 my audio slows down in pitch and timbre. I moved everything (the hard drive with the FCP session to my G4 and everything works fine. I have gone back and forth between both computers used different internal and external (FW) drives only to have any session slow down and anytime I try to play files though QT, the are slow and lower in timbre as well. When I disconnect MBOX1 everything is fine again.

As a voice actor PT PT LE 7.1 CS 10 seems to be recording my audio fine and bouncing down files without problems. I also notice that when MBOX is hooked up I get a lot os static though my event reference 3 monitors (MBOX goes to a yamaha mixer though a sampson c control to the monitors. This configuration has been running since since I changed over to MACs over two years ago.

Could have a corrupt core audio driver? I checked over the mbox and the usb cable is a little loose in the back, but the MBOX is always stationary and there was never strain on the usb cable. Where should I start looking?

Any thoughts. Everyone on creative cow and apples discussion site was pointing me toward the mbox. Is there something going on with other's mboxes? I would hate to have to go for a presonus firebox and trash PT, if things are becoming incompatible. I wok well with PT.
