Default Sales Offer Suggestion for Carbon for Existing Perpetual License Holders

Hi Avid -

I noticed this gem of a sales offer for Carbon buyers: Free Auto-Tune Hybrid and Pro Tools | Ultimate, a $2998 Value!

So how about for existing Pro Tools Perpetual License holders you offer them the same advantage with a discount on Carbon? After all, many of us (including me) have held our license for about 2 decades and continue to pay yearly $399 (ouch!) for mostly bug fixes. So it might look something like this... Special Offer for Existing Pro Tools Ultimate Perpetual License Holders | Carbon interface for $1,001 ($3,999 minus $2998). You could even throw in Auto-tune Hybrid (nobody cares but hey) and make the price $999 cause it sounds better than $1,001.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Anyone else agree?

Couldn't you just buy the Carbon deal and then sell the extra perpetual license, since you already have one?

Bummed doesn't even begin to describe it for me. It feels like a kick in the gut.

EDIT: Justin's original post was a complaint about AVID not extending the free PT Ultimate license deal to those of us who bought a Carbon prior to July. I agreed with that. His post is now about discounting the price of the hardware by the retail cost of the Ultimate license and I recognize how ridiculous that proposal is and my comment above is not a response to Justin's post as it reads now.

It's a lot of money to spend and then not get the same deal within a few months....for sure.

I suppose you could. Do you think you could get $3K for it? Made me wonder if Avid can still sell Ultimate Perpetual license for a whopping $2599? I mean compared to:

- Studio One Professional 5 is $399
- Apple Logic Pro is $199.
- Cubase Pro is $552.
- Nuendo is $972.
- Ableton Suite is $749.
- Reason Studios is $399.
- MOTU Digital Performer is $495.
- Bitwig Studio is $399. Reaper is $60.
- Luna is free when you buy a UA Interface (what a concept!)

Nah I don't think you could get that much. Maybe $1k on a good day.

Default Carbon Discount for Existing Perpetual Ultimate Owners...

...AVID you need to make this happen. It could be a win-win. Here's what I suggest:

AVID Carbon Special Offer for Existing Pro Tools Ultimate Perpetual License Holders Only. Carbon Interface Only (No Software): $1,295 USD.

I really hope you consider something like this. It's a royal PITA to have to plunk down $4K and then try and sell a license I don't need for, typically $1000-$1500. Do your loyal long time customers a solid.

You know that's not going to happen, right? The software is already developed. It costs AVID nothing to include it. The hardware, while already designed, still has to be physically produced. In other words, tossing the software into the package doesn't add to AVID's cost of production and doesn't change the profit margin AVID wants/needs to maintain on the Carbon. Expecting a discount based on the retail price of the software is just silliness.

Also, it looks like you changed your original post at some point to make it look like people agreed with you. Originally, the complaint was about AVID not extending the Ultimate offer to those of us who purchased a Carbon prior to July. I agreed with that complaint. Now you have it looking like some of us are on board with your discount idea. I did not agree to that.

Exactly. Hardware has a production cost. Software does not after development is absorbed. This is absorbed. And the request is stupid.
