Default Re: Audio Record or Playback Volume Error Info-THANKS!

Just wanted to give a big thank you for the help on this. It took about 20 seconds to fix my problem.
How nice to have a place to come where people answer what are probably silly questions to most here.

Thanks again.

I have recently had to by a new mac (macbook pro 2.2GHz intel core 2 Duo 2GB RAM 10.4.9), because my old ibook(which ran pro tools perfectly for 4 years) died. now on my new mac i can't run protools( 6.9.2 installed) becuse ' ''Macintosh HD'' cannot be designated as an Audio Record Volume because it is not a valid audio volume'. i can't change the T to an R.
I've tried everything on this forum and nothing has worked

Ya- same thing for me as hywelpayne. I got a brand spanking new Mac Book Pro, and even upgraded to a 7200 rpm internal hd, only to find I can't even open a new session just to edit some dialog. Laaaaaaaaaaaame! What's the deal? Digi, please fix this. It's a crime. I was always able to record to a Powerbook internal

Laaaaaame!!

Geez, I'm the one who's laaaaaaaame. I found out that I needed 7.1.1 in June 23 '05 release notes, and then noticed that the same thing is plastered all over pages 4 and 5 of this very thread. Sorry DUC (embarrassed smiley here). Hope all will be good when I'm on 7.1.1.

Question though- I've seen several mentionings of *needing* an external drive for PT on a laptop, even with a 7200 rpm internal. Is an external *truly* necessary, given even a simple scenario like the aforementioned quick dialog editing? Or is it more a performance thing for larger sessions with a lot of tracks and plugs? I just want to be able to camp in a coffee shop and do simple editing and sfx bounces. I've got several big honkin Seagate externals, but coupled with the Mbox itself, that starts to be a pain, and I might as well just stick to my desktop at that point. If it is indeed needed, can anyone recommend a tiny, functional external? Doesn't matter if it's only 5 gigs etc., I can move my sessions to my internal for storage.

If I'm being a dumbass again, and this was covered elsewhere, please tell me!

Thanks

no, sorry. not for me:
I have the latest protools LE (7.3.1.cs3) on the latest macbook (june) and am not able to change the hd to "record". deleting the "DIGIDESIGN DATABASES" does not make any difference.

... oh and I forgot to mention that I am also using 7.3.1cs3.
I have tried all the options mentioned on the various help support pages... I had enough trouble getting ProTools to even launch, but now this T / R / P issue makes it qually as useless.

Does any one know a fix to this, that has not already been mentioned in this current thread?

(also note, that I cannot even set it to Playback)

Regards,
Matt
