Default Computer noise

Hello!

I have mac G4, which I use with my PTLE digi 001.
As most of you have noticed, the computer hard drives and fan, etc. can be awful noisy. Pro quality ISO boxes and racks are pretty expensive and hard to find.
Ok, why not put the computer in the next room and solve the noise problem pretty easily. Can anyone share their experiences with such a setup with digi001? Is there computer cable long enough and where to get it? Is it expensive? How's the display working with extension cord? Did it help getting rid with the noise?

Placing the computer in another room is the BEST solution. ISO boxes are too hot. There are a few companies that sell various solutions to extend the distance between the CPU and KVM. Most of these are for extending long distances and cost a lot of money. If your distance will be fairly short (say less than 40 or 50 feet) you may want to try using a KVM switcher (even if you only have one CPU). Most the better ones include the ability to extend the signal and they cost around $100 (give or take $20). Then use top quality cables. Buy it from a place that will let you return without a restocking fee just incase it doesn't work. If it does work, you'll save a good amount of $$$!

You can put your Mac in the next room, but I doubt you'll be able to go any longer than 10 or 12 feet, why? because of the 001 breakout cable; some folks on the DUC managed to get a longer one from THIS MANUFACTURER , but the lenght is no more than that; there's a thread about this subject, do a search and it'll show the exact lenght of the non-Digi cable; too long and I think you'll get into some signal problems.

Hope this helps
