Hooking up new pre to 002
As I'm about to get the UA610 solo today, just curious how to hook it up to the 002, so it bypasses the 002 pre's...Do I put it through one of the inputs on the 002? Will the 002 know to bypass its own inputs? Thank you

Re: Hooking up new pre to 002
Assuming +4dBV balanced XLR output..just build/buy a FXLR > 1/4" TRS cable and go straight into inputs 5>8 on your 002.
good luck,

Re: Hooking up new pre to 002
What happens if I got XLR into one of the 002 XLR channels?

Re: Hooking up new pre to 002
Then you are preamp-ing twice. You need to plug the UA into one of the line inputs of the 002, which are 1/4" TRS connections. Since the outputs on the UA610 are Balanced XLR, you will need a balanced XLR to 1/4" TRS cable.
But Andrew has already covered that.

Re: Hooking up new pre to 002
Ok, I got this XLR to TRS cable (monster) and plugged it into input 8 and I'm barely getting any levels from the mic...I've tried 3 different mics and I'm still barely getting any levels...

Re: Hooking up new pre to 002
2 possibilities come to mind. 1-bad unit and 2-operator error. Let's try to rule out #2 by doing a little troubleshooting. On the LA610, plug in your mic, set phantom on if required, set the input knob to the Mic-2K position, GAIN knob at 12 o'clock, pad switch down(for off) and big knob around halfway. On the right side, set the upper little kbnob to PREAMP and the lower little knob to BYPASS(bypassing the compressor section) and check the mic to see if the meter shows a good signal. If not, try upping the small GAIN knob until you do get a solid signal. If you still don't get a good meter reading, it could be a bad preamp section. If you do get a good reading, check it in Protools to see if its getting thru(if not, try another cable or input on the 002 which should be set to +4 on the line inputs bTW). If you are getting a good signal into PT, switch the compressor in(lower small knob, far right). If the signal goes away, that would indicate a bad compressor. Assuming the preamp is new, the dealer should repair or replace it free. It may be a tube was jostled loose in shipping. I hope you get it working as its a great pre and I love mine.
