Default Audio Technica

AT3035

Has anyone used this mic? I'm thinking about buying one, it's one of the few condensers in my price range. Just looking for any positive or negitive input. I've read the musicians friend reviews but part of me believes that someone is employed to write consistant positive feedback. (or i'm just paranoid) anyway, It's primary use will be tracking vocals. thanks.

possibly off-topic, but i got a at4040 last week - good build quality, sounds great on acoustic guitar. quite a pleasant, bright microphone, lots of detail. trying with vocals next week.

You will likely find that it is a very telling mic. In otherwords whatever goes in comes out, works well with a female or a male voice.

Downside, Cardiod only... (Save it for vocals mostly (or maybe an ambient drum kit mic)

I'd suggest getting a decent preamp for it to add a little air to it.
(Behringer Mic100) will do the trick for less than 100 bucks (yes i am acutally serious)

And yes i am aware that typically Behringer and good preamp don't fit in the same sentence but I will garuntee you will be suprised.

Great Microphone though, Its no U-47 but its can still be used to make a hit recording.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into that preamp as well. Seems like you can't go wrong for $50.

If you're interested in AT, I would recommend spending a few more bucks and getting the 4050. It really is one of those relatively inexpensive all around mics, but often even the gear snobs will turn to this mic for tracking a male or female vocal. You can't go wrong with this model.

Agreed, I had to use a pair on overheads for a gig last week because I could only get one pair of 414s.

They were nice and smooth and clear.

Considering getting a pair, but may go 4050s so I can get multi-pattern in the studio. Is the 4050 the multi-pattern version? Can't remember.

Was impressed with the 4040s totally.

Not sure what the difference would be between a 4040 and a 4030 though???

HTH,

Iain

CoSD,

Whatever you choose you will be happy with something from Audio Technica's lineup, wether it be the 3035, the 4040 or 4047/SV , the Industry Magic 4050, or the Godly 4060

I'm not a salesman just a lover of good tone...
Chinese made or not, these guys put out pleasant sounding gear

Good Luck with your Purchase and Happy Recordings

P.S. believe it or not I tested that behringer cheapo next to the Mic Preamps which it's design was based up (Art Tube MP) and for Giggles (Studio Projects VTB1) , and I must sadly report that for once a behringer Item blew both of them out of the water by actually showing some musicallity in its tone. Its a really suprising little unit... I love it as a guitar D.I. (Bass guitar works too but not that great imho)

God Bless Behringer, they steal the ideas, get sued, so the customers win! =)

I've got an AT3035, but also have a Studio Projects C3 and for the slight price diff, I prefer it over the AT3035... a lot.
