Re: 3rd Party Interface????
That's a joke right? Of course it is. What was I thinking. LOL
To answer the question, pick the one that has the specs you like. Every interface has it's quirks. RME are popular. The Fireface 400 or 800 would do fine. Motu has a few. Which one will go better with your decor? The question itself (Which is THE best) reeks of inexperience though. That's like asking what's the best band? Or, what's the best music? There is no right answer. Only the answer that you like best.

Re: 3rd Party Interface????
Indeed I am a beginner, and I should have elaborated a bit more.
I am looking to record, guitar, vocals, bass, synth. Just the basic "band" set up. Any good word on the Presonus Firestudio?? |

Re: 3rd Party Interface????
There are so many questions to answer prior to which interface:
#1 How many Mic Pre's do you need on the interface - or will you patch from existing Pre's #2 Will you need to slave Word Clock on coax #3 Do you need MIDI I/O #4 Do you need hardware monitoring with DSP #5 How many analog inputs #6 How many ADAT inputs #7 Do you need AES or SPdif #8 How many Analog Outs (5.1 / Multiple Cue Sends) #9 Do you need ADAT outs #10 AES Outs? #11 Does the Software Interface matter I can think of a few more questions but I'll pause here for some of your answers. I own, have owned or have used just about every interface over the past few years in my work. I still use about 10 to 12 of them in different rooms and on location in my work. $1200 is a good price - I'd look at the RME stuff - but I am not a fan of the USB interfaces - Answer the above questions and we'll work from there. Best -D |

I am definitely a newbie when it comes to equipment. I've been an artist for quiet a while, and coming to the realization that I need to just build my own studio on a budget of course, is no easy task. I am looking forward to the adventure though! If you could, if it's not too much to ask, break some things down for me. As of now, I really need something that's great quality for a decent price. I'm really looking for this studio to be for recording demo's for labels and such. So it may not sound like a million dollars, but it's good enough to express the sound well enough. I know that wasn't the best Technical answer, but i'm gonna keep looking for them lol. Thank You for Your help, I really Appreciate it. |

Re: 3rd Party Interface????
Get one of the new Mboxes. The pre's are good, the AD is excellent, you can use it with any DAW, and it's really easy and robust to use. That would be my choice.

I paid $1100 for a RME FF800 - Pretty good I/O for the money
