simple recording/playback question
Hi all, I just purchased and installed (formatted/partitioned) a new WD caviar green hard drive vie eSATA to my laptop. This is a rookie question, but how do I set up Pro Tools le to do both record and playback on this drive as opposed to the hard drive running Windows? The thread on general troubleshooting says to have a separate hard drive for recording and playback, and I'm not sure how to set it up within pro tools.

Re: simple recording/playback question
You select it as the destination drive when creating your session(s). If you already have sessions created, you would move them to the new drive using the "Save Copy In..." feature within the Pro Tools software, then deleting the original in Windows.
I would not have recommended a "green" drive for Pro Tools sessions though, and you are most likely going to have issues with it. Green drives tend to have power down features that conflict with Pro Tools regular operations.

Re: simple recording/playback question
What he said^^^^
"green" drives usually have power management that will spin them down(some only get up to 5900 rpm anyway) so they are not a wise choice for recording(still fine for backup, archive and transfer). WD Caviar Black are one of the top choices for recording.

Re: simple recording/playback question
If you can return the green drive or exchange it for a Blue or better yet a Black drive, you will be much better off.
