Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
Ah, I was actually on 9.0.2. I upgraded to test this out and am experiencing similar issues: Recording 24 tracks at any buffer 64 or higher produces no problems, but recording even 1 track at 32 produces an almost immediate -6101 error. Hopefully this is resolved soon.
Mac Pro (2008) 9GB Ram PT 9.0.3 Profire 2626

Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
Question to BOTH of you...
On the playback engine, are you using the: - ProFire 2626 Driver or the - Pro Tools Aggregate Driver thanks rw Quote:

Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
Profire 2626, I have no reason to use aggregate. Everything seems fine except for working (even just PLAYING) at a buffer of 32. 64 is good enough for tracking however if 32 would work I'd use it. With my old 002 I recorded at 32 all the time and never had issues so I know it's not the computer, definitely either PT or the 2626 driver or a combo.

Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
Profire 2626 driver here as well. I tried it as an aggregate and it actually performed worse. As an aggregate device the CPU usage meter was jumping all over the place. At least now I know it's not an isolated issue with just my system.
I contacted tech support and alerted them to the issue but have not heard back from them yet. Sounds like it's time to chime in Avid. |

Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
Gotcha... you might try to post this also in the m-audio forums, under firewire... as far as I know they are still at forums.m-audio.com
sounds like a driver issue... though I have to say, I have never even attempted to track at 32 on a native system. and I am ridiculously picky about my tracking latency. i will try and test this tomorrow if I have some free studio time.

Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
After further investigation and testing it seem that the Profire seems to be working with all buffer settings except for 32 samples. I still don't understand why this would be any different from using the 002r. Crap driver?

Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
I have confirmed that this is an issue with Pro Tools. Playback and recording with the Profire 2626 driver at a buffer of 32 samples works without any hangups in Logic Pro 9.1.4.

Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
Can you try disabling any unused software returns in the M-Audio Firewire control panel and tell us if that helps?
It seems to work here when doing so. |

Re: Why Does The Profire 2626 Suck So Much?
I went down to 18 software returns instead of 26 and it did help. Why is this? Why would the number of software returns I'm using have an effect on my processing power?
Even when using all of the software returns at 32 samples I'm barely pushing my cpu. The cpu meter in Pro Tools shows about 25% usage but the thin green line in front of the usage meter jumps all over the place. All plug ins have been meticulously checked against the compatibility grid and are up to date. |
