Xeon Processor & 001: Need Help From The Pros?

Hey guys,

i did a fav for a bud and he gave me a Dell Xeon 3.06 ghz Proc. with a gig of RAM 3 harddrives, WXP pro...I've been running 001 5.1 on my old 1.33 Thunderbird and want to upgrade to 5.3 on the Xeon. (not interested in 6.4 due to waves plug re-purchase issues)

the xeon has service pak 2 installed, hyperthreading enabled, and the Intel E7505 chipset....I'll reinstall XP w/service pac 1 and turn off hyperthreading, but my question is regarding the chipset.

compatibility docs say the intel 845, 850, 860, chipsets are supported. does that basically mean the Intel(R)E75005 chipset in this computer makes it useless for the 001/5.3?

edit: is there a prefered slot and IRQ setting for the Xeon and the 001 PCI card?

I think there was someone here that tried it last year and it worked, but performance was not that spectacular. It works great on Nuendo. Go figure!

do you think my results will at least be better than my T-bird? and where would you advise i start regarding the slot and IRQ setting for the PCI card on the Xeon?

I'm not sure where performance is going to be on a single XEON. I'd start with the 001 card in the unshared slot. Get your motherboard manual from online and it should say which slot is the unshared slot.
