Hi Folks,
I'm trying to get my PT7.1 up and running with my Canopus ADVC-100. I can't get the video to play out to the Canopus via FIrewire. I get an error message telling me that PT can't find the DV device. When PT loads, there is a message saying that the "Video Engine failed to Initialize". I've tried the usual: Repaired permissions Trashed the prefs and databases HD Core is in the lowest slot Curious thing: When I go to the boot drive Library/Appication Support/Digidesign/Video Engine, the OS thinks that the file named VideoEngineDIO.bundle is a iDVD project file. I can't change it be opened by PT. I got the most recent CS update. I'm at a loss. Any help??? Jim LeBrecht Berkeley Sound Artists G4 933mhz running Mac 10.4.6 |

"Video Engine failed to Initialize" is a Mojo hardware thing, it has nothing to do with a Canopus.
If PT cant find a DV device, its usually a non compatible video file. Verify its a true DV codec file.

We have a lot of problems with this after Tiger and PT7.1 upgrade. The workaround is, that you have to disconnect Canopus, restart computer, start ProTools, and then connect Canopus and switch it on. If you will pray correctly, ProTools will be able to play out FW port again. I hope this help you. If not, we have found, that connecting Canopus to computer with 10.3.x system (may be some older QT) and then reconnect it back to your Tiger workstation solves the problem as well. Until next disconnect, unfortunately.

Pavel,
It didn't work for me. Perhaps you can be specific about who/what or where to pray??? My vendor's tech support talked to Digi and was told that I should try and completely deinstall PT. Then, when I go to install make sure that I don't install the video engine. Apparently, it's only used with the Mojo. We'll see. To answer the other post, I'm sure it's a DV movie. And the option to display it was in the menu. Anyone else care to chime in? Thanks! Jim |

Hi Jim,
You didn't say if you had just upgraded to Tiger or not, but if you have, there is a known QT7 bug that comes along with the upgrade. On some systems the QT installer doesn't work right and NO Firewire devices will be recognized by QT. (Got bit with this when I upgraded my home rig). The solution, courtesy of the Apple boards is: 1. Go to /Library/Receipts (your main Library, not the one in the user folder) 2. Remove ALL the Qucktime Receipts EXCEPT the ones that say "Media" at the end. 3. Go to www.apple.com/quicktime and download the STANDALONE installer (do NOT do the upgrade) 4. Install and reboot. Your CANOPUS should now be seen by PT. Good luck
